SUMNER GALA.

♦ FIXED FOR FEBRUARY 24th. . A public meeting in connexion with the | Sumner Gala was held at Sumner last night, | tlio Mayor (Mr J. B. Laurenson) presiding over a good attendance. Mr Buttlo. prceident of the Sumner Burgesses Association, apologised for the action which tho association had taken in regard to the gala, it being due to a misapprehension. Tho Mayor eta ted tliat the residents of Sumner were not as enthusiastic as they might bo in connexion with such matters. Ho was sure that tho coining gala would provo a 6UCC66S. Mr J. Carter moved that the. gala be held on February 24th. Tho motion was seconded by Mr T. E. Whitfield. After some discucsioD as to tho time necessary to make complete preparations, the motion was carried unanimously. j£r H. F. Roberta moved that Mr W. S. Heyes (who waa secretary of the previous gala) bo appointed honorary secretary. Mr J. Curter seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr T. E. "Whitfield suggested that Mr H. P. Roberts be appointed assistant hon. secretary, which was agreed to. Mr C. Dash was appointed honorary treasurer. Tho following officers were elected: — President, Mr J. B. Laurenson: vice-presi-dent, Mr T. E. Whitfield; committee, Meesra A. C. Wilson, E. L. H. Brown. J. Harvey, H. F. Roberts, C. B?njaniin. (J. E. Blazey. J. Carter. W. Lawson. A. Masters, H. C. Jamicson, G. W. C. Smithson, C. Dash, D, Majquet, H. Powe, 11. Buttle. T. P. Adams, W. F. Haphael. and J. C. Holmes. It was decided that the proceeds should be dirided between the local Red Cross and Lady Liverpool Funds, and the Mea's Bandage Committee, in the proportion of •50 psr cent, to the Red Cross and 25 per cent, each to the Lady Liverpool Fund and the Men's Bandage Committee. A siib-committeo consisting of the president, vice-president, secretary, assistant secretary. treasurer, and Mr J. Harvey was appointed to draft a programme and to report to the General Committee at a meeting to be hold on February 9nd. It was decided to leave al] matters in connexion" with the aquatic events in the hands of Mr D. Marque t and the members of the Christchurcli Sailing and Power Boat Club.
