TUTANEKAI EFFECTING REPAIRS. Some little time ago Post and Telegraph authorities discovered tliat No. 4 cable across Cook Strait from Lyall Bay to White's Bay had developed a break, and since then all traffic has had to be diverted to tho other caUlcs. Very little inconvcnicnce has been caused up to tho present, but with tbe advent of "the Christmas rush, tho authorities deemed it advisable to get the broken cable into running order as soon as possible. With this end in view, the Government cable repair steamer Tutanekai, which had_ beimT lying at Clyde quay Wharf. Wellington, was reoommisßionod. and sailed on Saturday morning for tho scene of the break. * Tjj the present unsettled weather conditions it is difficult to sav bow long the repair s "'ill tako (says Saturday's "Post"), but they will probably be eonmleted within the next two or three days.»
