CANTERBURY PATRIOTIC FUND.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. Tlis executive of tli-e Canterbury Patriotic Fund met afterncpn, the Mayor (Mr H. Holland) presiding. Upon the recommendation of the Applications Committee it was resolved to urge the Advisory Boaid to bring under the notico of tho Government tho peoessity for increasing the grant to discharged soldiers for clothes from 30s to £5. It was also resolved to request tho Advisory Board to urge upon the Defence Department that no soldier in indifferent health shall b e discharged until his case is enquired into and decided upon by the Pensions Board. The Applications Committee reported that, having considered tho request that a written guarantee bo given the Recruiting Office in respect to payment of tho funds' scale to men enlisting who have more than three children, resolved that no euch guarantee be given* The Y.M.C.A. appealed for assistance towards its trench "comforts fund. It "was decided to grant £50. Mr H. B. Soieneßß gave notice of motioji that £50 per month be given to this fund for six months.

BELGIUM FUND.

RAJKGIORA In connexion with the Salvation. Army Belgian We«k at Rangiora an entertainment ■was held last evening in the Institute Hall. Th© attendance was not large, and tho Mayor (Mr C. I. Jennings) occupied the chair. The programme consisted of vocal and instrumental items and recitations, whioh were given by Misses Skilling, Kaye, Jiuck]»y M. Young, and Dalziel, the Rev. W. H. ■Howes, Messrs C. Keir, J. McKenzie, J. Whitohouee, S. Roesiter, the Rangiora Orchestra, and the Presbyterian Church Choir. Mrs C. E„ 801 l and Miss G. Rogers played the acoompaniments. A cake presented by Mr J. Whitehouse was auctioned by the Mayor, realising £1 ss. Adjutant Buttimore announced the financial result of the Salvation Army's effort in the district to be upwards of £17.
