Although there was an air of solemnity about the whole of the correspondence, the manner in which the advisory exemption committee recommended that the request of the Master Undertakers of Sydney and Suburbs should not bo granted, has caused a galo of laughter to sweep through the Defence Department, and has even caused the Minister for Defence to forget his official cares in the enjoyment of the joke (says the Melbourne "Herald").
