Although there was an air of solemnity about the whole of the correspondence, the manner in which the advisory exemption committee recommended that the request of the Master Undertakers of Sydney and Suburbs should not bo granted, has caused a galo of laughter to sweep through the Defence Department, and has even caused the Minister for Defence to forget his official cares in the enjoyment of the joke (says the Melbourne "Herald"). The Master .Undertakers of Sydney and Suburbs applied for the of their employees from military service. The request was sent on to the advisory exemption committee, and probably as it was the last matter to come before it. and also because a request from undertakers appeared to be fitting at the time of the approaching dissolution of the committee, the members, in sending the papers on to Colonel T. H. Dodds (Military Secretary), marked them simply "Vide Luke ix., 59, 60. Colonel Dodds, on turning up the office Bible, found that the reference was as follows: —'"And He said -unto another, follow Me. But lie said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Jesus, said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead." The Minister has approved of the recommendation of the committee. Wcnted—A few good inhalations of "NAZOL" will quickly clear away nasal catarrh.
