DROWNING ACCIDENT.

PLUCKY RESCUE WORK BY TWO BOYS. A very sad drowning accidcnt occurred at Day's Bay, Wellington, about 2.30 on Sunday afternoon, which cast quite a gloom over tho enjoyment of many hundreds of holiday-makers. Like many other bathers, Walter Stuart, a married man, witli his wife. son. and sister, were enjoying the pleasure of diving from the pier. On this occasion they chose the right-hand-side of the pier, where tho ferry boat is usually berthed. At this side the water suddenly becomes very deep, and it is surmised that the bathers unexpectedly got out of their depth. Cries for assistance were suddenly heard by those on the pier, and two Wellington College student;, Hector Clouston (lo) and James Bronte (lo), at once dived into tho water. Their prompt and plucky action resulte<l in the rescue of Mrs and Miss Stuart, and the boy, who all recovered after artificial respiration had been resorted to. It was some time, however, before the body of the father was recovered, and when, brought to the surfac.. Dr. Hector, who was present, coulu only pronounce life extinct. It is a coincidence that it was only on Saturday that the two boys. Clouston and Bronte, were each awarded life-saving certificates at their college. At the inquest on Stuart, held on Monday, the Coroner and tho police commended tho bravery of tho boys, Bronte and Clouston.
