ELECTRIC LIGHTING. The Heatheote County Council has fo r some time past been supplying residents of Cashmere with electricity from its own plant. The original purpose of the installation was merely to provide street lighting, but one after another residents in the surrounding district applied for private installation, and as a result quite a large number are now connected with the scheme. The power of the p]ant is, however, limited, and there is a danger of its becoming overtaxed. In all probability the electric iighting will'be connected with, the Lake Coleridge current before Christmas. Bromley is rapidly progressing with its electric lighting scheme,"about sixty private installations having been made. Arrangements are in hand to extend the wire to Bexley. and the Public Works Department has been instructed to put the work in li ( ind. The ratepayers facing Shortland street, Ayon, side, have agreed to clear the road of gorse and broom, and to fill in the hollow at the Page's road end of Shortland street, and make that portion of the road passable for light wheel traffic, provided the Heatheote County Council will agree to accept the dedica- ' tion of Shortland street. Agreement : has now been reached on this point. Re- | garding an application for electric light j by a resident near Heatheote Bridge, the Pbulic Works Department has _rej plied that in about three months' time I a line will be run to Sumner, when it !is proposed to install a sjpall transformer to feed this house, and the Heatheote Arms Hotel. During the. past few weeks four building . permits'have been issued by the iiiecarton Borough Council, of a total value of £3870. Work on Clarence ; street has been completed, and it is j now m very good order, j At Woolston electric light has been widely installed, and residents are very : proud of the splendid light along Ferry road, it being thought that it is superior io that provided in the city. The Spreydon Council is still waiting and hoping for its next shipment of electric cable, but in the meantime work is being pushed forward with the limited material available. The Council has recently issued building permits a for constructions valued at about £1200.
