WOOLSTON.

The fortnightly meeting of the Woolston Borough, Council was held last night. Present—The Mayor (M r J. J. Graham), Crs. J. B. Richardson, J. Hobson, L. Hart, W. Fuller, G. Lilloy, A. Mcßae, F. Newton, C. Hill, and T. Radcliffe. The committee set up to consider tho position of Chichester street, recommended that a circular- be sent to owners of property in the street, asking them to attend a conference.—Approved.

•To© Works Committee recommended that tho foreman be appointed sanitary inspector. The Mayor moved that the matter be referred baok to tho committee. Th>3 motion .was seconded by Cr. Hart and carried. The Library -Committee reported that youths _had been disfiguring the chimney aud scattering charcoal on th© floor, piling the chairs on the table, and closing the library. The Mayor moved, "That tho committee advertise in _ the papers that action would bo taken against any parson damaging library property."—Th© motion was carried.

. The Finance Committee reported that tho Receipt* for the fortnight had been £191 • 3-ar 4d. The dr. balance on General Account was £386 I*B Bd, or, with unp resented cheques, £541 5s 4d. The Electricity Loan was in credit £1288 17s sd, and the Temporary Loanin debit £760.—Adopted.

A notice from the Gas Company with reference to a suggested contract for lighting' wa« referred to the Works Committee.

The District Health Officer wrote regardfrig a drain in Barton street, which took the discharge from six houses in Junction street, and recommended the Council to lay a Ginch earthenware drain. A later report, on another inspection reported the drain to be in a worse state than before. A nuisance and he called on the Council to abate it. Tho letter was referred to the Works Committee.

A,communication from the Woolston School Committee, in answer to a letter from the Council, complaining of the damage done to the Park by ochool children, stated that the committee was doing its best to prevent damage, but, as the Park waa not under any supervision ■ on Sundays* and Saturdays, the damage might have been done on those days. The letter was received.

It was decided to again approach Mr Hanmor with regard to the overshadowing of -the road by the trees on his property. The Ngaio Ladies' Hockey Club challenged the Mayor and Ckmncillorß to play a friendly ganve of hockey on Saturday next. . Thet challenge was accepted
