SATURDAY'S: MATCHES,

Tho Styx Gun Club held its annual trophy shoot on its grounds. Gardiner's road, Papanui, on Saturday. Tho day turned out fine, but the strong wimd made shooting very difficult. The conditions were three shoots — 10 sparrows, 1° pigeons, and 10 clays, the first prize, valued at £3 3s, being given by Mr J. Law, the eecond.valued at £1 lis Gd, being frv©a by Mr F. Hedge, and the third, •valued at 10s 6d, being given by tho cluibj Mr'R. Claridge gave a special prize for the shooter getting the most kills with the fiwt barrel., .In the first leg of the trophy, 10 sparrows (optional -sweepstake), A. Buckley (18yds) killed 8 birds, J. Pepper (19yds) 9, J. Simpson (23yds) 8, T. Veitch (16yds) 6; E. Tischl (17yds) 7; N. Donald (19yds) 7, D. Doreen (19ydo) 8. J. Smith (18yds) 8. H. Avers (20yds) 10, H. Doreen (17yds) 7, and J. Cairns (21yds) 7. H. Avers took first money, J. Pepper eccond, Buckley, P..Simpson, T. Veitch, D., Doreen and J. Smith divided third money. J. Tulett (19yds), W. Reid (21yds), A. Fairbairn (19yds). O. Claridge (17yds), F. Ckaridgo (20yds), F. Sisson (16yds), R. McCullough (16yds), H McKenzie (17yds), J. "Neate (16yds), H. V. Truscott (16yds), J. Clark (17yds), and T. Prebble also took part in the match. The next shoot,'six birds and e-reepstaJces, -was fox new members only, and was won; by H. McKenzie, who shot all his birds. Jj Clark, with one miss, took second money, and H. V. Truscott and W. Hayton divided third money. R. McCullough, J. Cairns, S. Brown, and H. Doreen also took part. J. Clark also won Mr A. Johnston's trophy. - The day finished with a six-bird sweepstakes (handicap), the best results being:— A l .-Buckley (18yds) 5 birds, R. McCullough (16yds) 5, J. Cains (17yds) 5, J Smith (18 ydeTs E.
