MAGISTIBUL. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Two first offenders were each fined 6s, or 34 hours' imprisonment. John Hughes, a second offender, was fined 10s, or in default, 48 hours' imprisonment. Alexander Craib, who pleaded not guilty, was fined 10s or 48 hours imprisonment. COMMITTED TO ROTO ROA. Matthew James Boskill was charged with procuring liquor while being a prohibited person. Mr Rowc, instructed by defendant's wife, asked that he be committed to Roto Eoa. Accused was committed to Koto Roa for 6ix months. Leonard "William Cockburn was charged with being an habitual drunkard, and was committed to Roto Roa for twelve months. DISMISSED. Thomas Joseph Williams was charged with being « rogue and vagabond and being on premises belonging to Tonks, Norton and Co., without lawful excuse Mary Agnes Vaughan was charged with him. Both elected to be tried summarily, and pleaded not guilty. The informations were-dismissed. CIVIL CASES. Judgment by default was given in the following cases: —Ernest L. McKeon v. Joseph Barrow, £1 2s 9d; Uuillermo and Co. v. Charles Baldwin, 17s lid; T. Danks v. S. G. Sharman, i.«O 12s 9d; C. G. Fryer v. George Stringfellow, £17; H. C. Godfrey and Co. v. W. Watts, £9 7s 4d. LTTTELTOJT. (Before Messrs Garrard and L. A. Stringer, J.P.'s.) OBSCENE LANGUAGE. On a charge of using obscene language, Dennis Harrington, alias O'Brien, was fined £5, in default one month's imprisonment. On a further charge of drunkenness, he was convicted and discharged. v KAIAPOI. (Before Mr C. F. Sneyd, J.P.) A female first offender, charged with, drunkenness, was convicted and discharged. FALSE REPRESENTATION. {F3ESS SSSQCUTIOS TEtJGIUM.) DUNEDIN, September 18. George Imory was sentenced to three months' imprisonment in the Police Court to-day for # falsely representing himself as a Syrian doctor who could cure rheumatism. Accused obtained five gumeas from one woman whose legs ho scarred with burning wood, then putting a pellet of beeswax on them and covering up the wound with leaves. CHINESE FINED. ASSOCUZIOV TUSORAII.) WELLINGTON, September 18. In the Magistrate's Court to-day five Chinese were fined £50 each, in default one month's imprisonment, on charges of playing pakapoo.
