FIRES.

At about 5.20 p.m. yesterday the Lyttelton Fire Brigade received a call to an outbreak of fire in a four-roomed wooden house in Brittan terrace, occupied by Mr Jas. Smart, and owned by the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. It was found impossible to save the house, which was completely destroyed, although neighbours managed to save most of the furniture. 3lr Smart, who was absent from the house when the fire broke out, has no idea as to how the outbreak originated everything being apparently safe when he went out at about 2.30 p.m., leaving a small fire iu one of the rooms. The furniture was insured in the Royal office for £100.
