ADDRESS BY DI?. BLACKMORE. The last of the series of Thursday evening lectures arranged by Miss Clark was held last night, -when the speaker was Dr. Bla'jkmore, of tho Consumption Sanatorium. The Rev. J. Pator-.-■Oll was in the chair, and a number o 1 guests were present. I>r. Blaekmore dealt with diseases ir the tropics, and pointed out how whii* war in the West was decimating the peoples o? Europe, science in the East was saving, " directly and indirectly, millions of human lives. In India and tho Straits Settlements, science was combating disease in every form. Fever and malaria had been met by combined and consistent efforts in tho way of inoculation and vaccination ; war wf<s being waged against mosquitoes, the carriers of fever and malaria germs. He detailed the ravages of bubonic plague and cholera in tho East, but' pointed out that the latter disease had been greatly checked by sanitation, inoculation and proper care of drinking water and milk. The lecture was "most interesting, and at its close a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Dr. Blackmore. The Revs. J. Paterson, J. R* Young, 0. S. Bryan-Brown, and P. J. Cocks were also thanked for presiding or speaking, and o. hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Clark for arranging sach < an enjoyable series of instructive evenings.
