FIRES.
The Brigade received an alarm at 9.16 p.m. yesterday for an outbreak in Smith street, Lower Jliccarton. but, being outside the fire district, the plant, after going to the boundary, returned. The fire was in a four-rooined cottage, owned and occupied by Mr John Wright, and is supposed to have been due to some clothes drying in front of the fire becoming ignited. The house was totally destroyed. It was insured for £220 and the furniture for £'o0 in the State Office.
