4 OTAGO PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE. (PKESS ASSOCIATION TELEGILUI.) DUNEDIN, May 31. At tho annual conference of delegates to tho Otago Provincial Council of tho New Zealand Farmers' Union, it was resolved to protest against any embargo on tho export of produco or tho imposition of export duties. it was also decided to protest against any award for farm labourers, aj it would be unworkable, owing to tho peculiar combinations which apply to rural work. iA resolution was carried that the Government be approached with a view to purchasing suitablo lands for returned soldiers; also that the Government take into consideration the establishment of a training farm for soldiers before placing them on Government sections. A proposal that a tax on wealth be imposed in lieu of income and land tax was lost.
The Conference decided in favour of raising funds locally by loan and taxation to pay for Now Zealand's war expenses.
