TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

MEETING OF BOARD OF GOVERNORS

A meeting of the Board of Governors of the Christcnurch Technical College was held last night. Present —Messrs G. Scott (in the chair), Messrs E. H. Andrews, S. Bullock, J. BuMerueld, \V r . F. Cooper, E. Denham, J. J. Graham, F. E. Jones, C. H. Opio, S. C. Owen, il. K. Kusbridge, and \V. H. Winsor. A motion expressing regret at the death of Mr K. F. England was carried in silence, members standing. The Director reported that there wore 672 pupils in the evening school. He strongly condemned Latin being made a compulsory subject for the matriculation examination, and urged that greater attention should be paid to the study of science, the great want of which had been emphasised by the war. The Appointments Committee reported that an extra bookkeeping class had had to be formed, and recommended that a student assistant be appointed in practical agriculture at £2 per session; that oh arrival of Miss Patterson sbe should make herself acquainted with the course of training adopted in the primary school before -taking up the duties of lady superintendent; that Mrs Gard'ner be asked to continuo the instruction in domestic arts on two afternoons in the week; that a deputation from the Board of Governors wait on the general manager of the Tramway Board with regard to the training of their apprentices; that a special course of one term in home science and household management, at a ieo for board, residence, and tuition of £10 per term, euch course to be suitable for older students, be provided.

The balance-sheet for the year ending March 31st, with £472 14s lid brought forward, showed the receipts to have been £10,376 19s, and the expenditure £10.054 14s 3d, leaving a credit balance of £794 19s 6d.
