FIRE IN LYTTELTON.

RAILWAY STATION DAMAGED. OUTBREAK NOT SERIOUS. At about 1.10 o'clock this morning a shunter named Donald Thomson, who was 011 duty in the Lyttelton railway yards, noticed that a fire had broken out at the station. The outbreak appeared to have been seen at the same time by Constable Bickerdyke, and the alarm being immediately given, the brigade arrived a few minutes later. The station, which is an old, wooden building, was found to be on fire in the vicinity of the porters' room, where it had evidently started, and the luggage office. For a while tho building burned fiercely, but, aided by a good pressure of water, tho brigade got the fire under control in about half an hour. Considerable damage was done to the structure, and a quantity of lucgage and parcels received a -wetting, but otherwise were not damaged. A similar fire occurred at the station about three years ago, on which occasion th'e damage done was less than that caused by last night's outbreak. It will not require the outlay of a large sum to repair the injury caused by the fire.
