AVONSIDE BURGESSES' ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the Avonsido Burgcsacs' Association was held at tho Linwood School'on Monday evening, Mr W. J. Jenkin (president) being in the chair. A letter was recoivcd from tho> Po3tma.2tcr-General, stating tluit au earlier delivery of letters had been arranged. The question of joining ■ Greater Christchurch was discussed, and it **aa decided to ask the United Burcess?®' Executive to go into tho question at its next meeting. S.P.C.A. The executive of • the Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met on Tuesday. Present—Messrs J. W. Watson (chairman), J. H. Parker, J. S. Atkinson, J. Spiller, Mesdameis- J. S. Atkinson, E. 11. Cross, and A. E. Turner. The question of raising money in order to assist tho Blue Cross Fund was disensaed, and it was decided. on the motion of Mrs Atkinson, that a shilling fund •be instituted for tho relief of sick and. wounded horses at the front. Correspondence waa received from Southbridge » relative to a caso of alleged crueltv perpetrated in that district. Tho inspector reported ha had enquired into the matter with the police, and the owner had promised to pension off the pony.. The inspector's report was read. It declared a loss of £8 5s on tho operations for the month. The report wae adopted. A new stale of charges for the Animals' Home was adopted. Mr J. H. Parker suggested that Mr Weir should visit tho country districts, which was agreed to. ENTERPRISE TENT. ••! The half-yearly meeting of tho Enterprise Tout, No. 7C, was hold in the Lced3 street. ilall on Tuesday evening. Bro. J. H. Macfar- j Jane, C.R., presided. It was announced that- tlie free hospital accommodation scheme was now in operation, and the percentage of members contributing to tho scheme wni very satisfactory. Tho sscreiury reported that three more member's of the Te;U had lieen* acccpted for military service, making a total of 15 members of the hranc.ii. The news of tho doath cf Bro. E. Leaver. CITY OF NORWICH LODGE. At the itnnual xueoting ot the Loyal City of Norwich 'Xiodge, 4356, 1.0. U.F., -U.U., Jjyttclton, N.G. Bro. U. A. bmith, was in the chair. Tho district officers, P.G.M. Bro. x. Lavrenoe, D.P.G.M. iiro. W. G. Carsoii. arid P.C.S. Bro. J. L. Carrell, paid an odicial visit, and were cordially received bytheN.G. The sixty-third annual balance-sheet, presented by the permanent secretary, P.P.G.M. tiro. W. T. Fester,. showed tho Lodge to be in a very sound position, the accumulated funds amounting to £15,556 0s Bd, an increase of £556 over last year. The sums of £470 l'.'a 6d sick pay, and £170 funeral donation were paid during the year. Fifteen members were at the front and in training, the Lodge paying their contributions during their absence; The district officers installed the following officers: —G.M., Bro. G. A. Foster were appointed delegates to Friendly Societies' Conferences.
