PUKEROA HOSPITAL.
OFFICIAI^OPEXIXG. (PRESS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAM.) ROTORUA, January 12. The Pukeroa Hospital for Convalescent Soldiers was opened this afternoon by the Hon. G. "W. Russell, in the nrcsence of about 2000 people. Th© local Maoris presented £100 for tfie purchase of* a piano and roller-top desks for the hospital. Addresses were given by the Hons. A. L. Herdman, "W. H. Herrios,. <M. Poware, Sir James Carroll, and Mr W. Hill (resident officer), and several Maori chiefs? Mr Russell said the following gifts had been made to the institution: — r Wairar?.;ia ... ... 1000 Hawke's B~y ... Wanganui ... ... 730 Salvation Army ... 000 Gisborne ... ... 250 Timaru ... ... 100 InvercargilJ ... 250 The Minister vent on to say that he understood that the Rotorua people had raised £4000 for sick and wounded soldiers. He would like to know wliero it was, so that he micht net eopie of it for the Pukeroa xiospital. He announced that Mr Clark, of Eskdale, had given a motor-car, and Mr Gillies, of Rotorua,. a billiard table, for the hospital. The ladies of • the Auckland. "Wellington, -and Blenheim patriotic association*, had contributed towards the equipment. The institution will accommodate 500 men;
