CANTERBURY PATRIOTIC FUND.

ATHLETES' DAY. The arrangements for Athletes' Day, to be held next Saturday in aid of the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund, are now practically completed. The committee has secured the services of some of the girl« attending Miss Digby's and Mr Gilby's schools to assint with the collection in the morning. The cricketers and footballers, will have the official programme on sale in the streets on Friday evening. METHODISM AND THE BITER CARNIVAL. Representatve Christchurch Methodists met yesterday afternoon in Durham street Church parlour, under the chairmanship ci the iiev. \V. A. Sinclair, to plan their work in connexion with the forthcoming River Bonk carnival, delegates being present from twenty-one churchcs. The Rev. H. E. Bellhouse, chairman of the Christchurch Ministers' Association, <xplained the circumstances, which led up to tho pledge made by the churches of Christchurch to assist as far »s' possible the ooming carnival funds, after which it was unanimously carried—'"That we, representing the Methodists of Christchurch, resolve to heart- ! ily co-operate with tho River Bank Carnival I Committee to raise funds for patriotic pur- | poses, and that this meeting bo a central committee to further the campaign to its successful ocmpletion." The resolution was carried on the distinct understanding that members took no part in raffles, lotteries, art unions, or gambling. The following officers were elected Chairman, Rev. W. A. Sinclair; secretary. Rev. li. Metaon: treasurer, Mr H. V. Free; executive, Rev. A. Peters, Mr W. J. Dohbs, and Mr M. Cimblett, Mosdames Baecand, Green, Hay, Cocker, and ' Marshall. Mr H. V. Free was appointed delegate io the River.Bank Carnival Committee. After som« discussion it was decided to run three tents at the Carnival, the details in connexion therewith to be referred to the exwutiv* to nlan and repert upon. Mr J. Marshall, a nietnbel 1 of the Carnival Committee, kindly offered to auction free of charge produoe unsold at the conclusion of the effort on December 16th. - DEMONSTRATION AT' GREYMOUTH. (press association telkgrau.) GREYMOUTH, September 27. A patriotic demonstration waa held in Victoria Park to-day, and was a great success. The weather was beautifully fine. The prooessicn wae the boat ever seen here. Sports of all kinds were indulged in. A sum of over £200 was obtained.
