A SHORTAGE.
MANY INFANTRY REQJCTRB!) TRENTHAM REGIMENT ' A3® , NINTH REINFORCEMENTS. ! . Something liko 400 infantry are.ie* quired from the Christoluirch Military District within tho next.two or tiurM weeks, but tho number of men whoao services have been accepted falls fa* d short of these requirements. Truo t -the number of men on the list of porarily rejected, men with dental , troubles, etc., would largely make tho leeway that exists, but in the of past cxpcricnco very littlo can bo placed- on large numbers' those men getting their defects in time, and tho result is that ! will require record recruiting in church to make up the district quota in time. ' At recent medical examinations, onlj a moderate percentage of tho apph- \i:? cants for service have been declared fit/ and taking the same ratio, a far greater number of men will be required to offertheir services than tho number 'Pf*; quired. Doubtless many intending J*®" cruits have been holding they considered the time had arrived; when their services could not bis dispensed with. - Owing to the extra heavy demands now being made in. tho recruiting line, that timo has been reaenpa, ; and too much stress cannot bo laid on . the fact that intending recruitsi should not lose a day in registering for service. The departure of tho local quota - for the Trentham Regiment wilVnW* V occur on Octobcr 11th, and that' for tlie Ninth Reinforcements on October 20th. Therefore tho timo is very. * limited in which to make up, tho shorty , * ago that exists in this district.; • ' - J A saddler and four Army Servicemen are also wanted from Chnstchurch for j the Trentham Regiment. The non-commissioned omcers 1:or tne •10th Reinforcements go into camp on Octobcr 12th. V ~
