A meeting of tho Now .Brighton Borough Council wa 6 held last night. Present: —The Mayor (Mr J. A. ! Flesher), and Crs. K. A. M-. Leaver. T. Cox. F. Christian, J. Aingcr. F. Holland, J. Buxton, F. Kibblewhitc, and ; J. Ashley. ■ ■ # 1 Mr G. L. Cull wrote complaining of the bad-state of the footpaths in Vie- : toria street. It was decided that ter- ' porary relief be afforded, and that , tho matter be left in the hands of tho Town Clerk to attend to. The Canal League asked the Council for monetary assistance. —Referred to the Council's Committoo for consideration. The Mayor of Christ-church wrote regarding the conference of representa- ' lives of local authorities to be held in the City Council Chambers on the 23rd inst. to consider tho best means of increasing the Canterbury Patriotic, Sick and "Wounded Fund. Tho Mayor was fleo'itcd to at tend. Mr F. L. Sandrey, of AA'est Melton, applied iov 3000 marram grass roots. It was -Jo.idod to supply them at the rato af £~> 10s per ton. i Correspondence from thc Poor 01 Great Britain. Ireland, and Belgium : Relief Fund was held over pending the ! conference of local bodies on the 2'ird 'inst. The Committoo recommended • that : tho Mayor and Cr. Wjnny ho appointed to attend to the matter of repairs ' t<> tho roof .of the Public Library; that tho Council .advertise, offering a reward of £2, to he paid to anyone giving information loading to tho conviction of any person cutting or damaging trees or shrubs in the reserves or domain; that -100 yards of shingle 00 , obtained for the purpose of improvements to the Esplanade: that the Council regrets it cannot see wav to* pay for any time lost by its workmen through illness.--The report was adopted.
