RICCARTON.

The ordinary meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council was hold last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr John Brown), and C-rs. W. Dalley, A. Hampton. G. W. J. Parsons. H. Wise. JGudsell, A. Steele, and G. Mannings. A letter was received from the Minister of Railways stating that ho could not accede to the request to make suburban railway fares available from intermediate stations. The M_aycr and Cr. Ford wero ap*pointed to represent- the Council at the meeting of local bodies on Friday next to consider the question cf augmenting and consolidating the Canterbury Patriotic Fund. The Waimairi County Council wrcto stating that it bad been decided to asphalt and channel the footpath outside the Christchuich Hospital entrance, under th» award recently made by the Commissioner, who reported on the upkeep ami maintenance cf the Park roads. The first Mayor of the Borough. M" J. Reynolds, presented the Council with, a framed portrait of himself, for which gift a vote of thanks was passed. The Finance Committee, rei'errin-r to the award of the Commissioner on the maintenance of the Park roads, stated thai it had sent a letter to the Waimairi County Council and the Christchurch City Council, suggesting that tlio_ City Council should take over the maintenance on behalf of all parties concerned, and that if .sneb arrangement be arrived at, the Riccarton Council would approve of same.—The report was adopted. The Works Committee renortod on detail work withi" the borough. Riccarton road, from Mandeville voad to ■Clarence road, had been metalled, but still required more rolling. The committee recommended that, the road h**. completed to Cutler's road, pt an estimated cost- of £117 3s *>d. half the cost to hejiof-o by the Waimairi County Council.—-The report was adopted.
