CORPORAL R. F. PETRIE.
Corpora! R. 'F. Petrio (Canterbury Battalion, killed) was the son of Mr R. G. Petrie, of 17 Andover street, Merivale. Ho was 21 years of age, and was educated at the Christchurch Boys' High School, where he took a prominent part in athletics, being a member of the first fifteen. He was also acting-captain of the Cadets and a monitor. Leaving school in 1912, ho assisted th c Old Boys' Football Club, and was a member of the Old Boys' team which won the Canterbury Rugby Union's Senior Championship last year. He was a fine type of forward, being over 6ft in height. At the Boys' High School yesterday morning the headmaster, M r C. E. BevnnBrown, referring to Corporal Petrie's death, .said the fact that he was so recently at school brought the matter home to them all. A special prayer was read for those old boys who were at the front, and the pupils stood in silence a s a marl-: of respect for the fallen. The flag was flown yesterday as a mark of respect for the late Corporal Petrio.
