ELLESMERE.
The monthly meeting of the Ellesmere County Council'held on Monday was attended by Councillors J. Cunningham (chairman), T. A. Stephens, J. Stony, J. Lochhead, and J. C. Free. Mr R. E. Allen made application for hut site at the Rakaia mouth, and Mr G. F. Whiteside forwarded a cheque to cover the rent of his site, which he paid , under protest, arguing that his* hut was not on the Council's property. The chairman and Crs. free and Btorry were appointed to go into matters connected with th'e hut sites at the river mouth. Dr. Chesson, the District Health Officer, "forwarded a report upon several matters that had engaged his attention on tho occasion of a recent visit to Leeston. Ho made the following recommendations: —That the Council refuse permission for the installation of a septic tank on the bank property; that a public nightsoil system bo established in Leeston, and that the Council serve notice on a ratepayer requiring him to make certain improvements m the interests of public health.
