The Government tax at 2J per cent, amounted to £1035. According to a writer in the "Dominim," Mr C. G. Dalgety has been receiving enquiries from nere and Australia re purchasing Warstep. The Canterbury sportsman does not usuai'y race horses out of the Dominion, and maybe if a suitable offer is forthcoming the mare .may be allowed to M. Aynslcy's stables. One of. Warstep's greatest admirers is R. JMason, and if he secures her he will ro doubt make another trip to Randwick. Mr.Charles Watson, the well-known West Australian sportsman, who returned to Australia by the Mcoltan last week, brings news that Brownie Carslake and other Australian jockeys w.ho bad been riding for Austrian notabilities are now interned in various parts of Austria, and.'according to a jockey who escaped, they are being treated very well (states a telegram from Fremantle to a Sydney, paper). Mr Watson has been in England for tho past 6even months purchasing -horses for various Australian owners, and he has arranged for twenty-two. most of which are yearlings, to come out. He is sending to Mr G. J. Barry, of New South Wales, four yearlings and one three-year-old. He has also sent out on behalf of Mr F. W. Bullock, the wellknown jockey, two line racehorses, to R. Lewis, of Melbourne, brother of Bobbie Lewis. Theso two horses were owned by a wealthy German. Count Lehendorn, and they were seized by the British authorities and sold privately. A coincidence is that Bullock used to ride for the Count, and now he owns h:s horses. Mr Watson states t/at the war had made little difference to racing in England. "There is. of course, a big difference in the price of horses." he explained. "One three-year-old which was considered cheat, "at 1500 guineas last year, was bought for 200 this year, and one that was worth 500 guineas last year was purchased for 100 guineas."
