ORDINARY MEETING. The Tramway Board met yesterday. Present—Messrs J. A. Flesher (chairman), Goo. T. Booth, C. M. Gray, D. Sykes, S. A. Staples, A. W. Beavon, and Hon. John Barr. A deputation of Sumner residents waited on the Board in connexion with the Sumner-Redcliffs Red Cross fete. Tho Rev. Mackenzie Gibson, referring to the object of tho fete, said that it was not intended to benefit any individual or tho residents of Sumner or Redcliffs, as every penny would be devoted to tiie Red Cross fund. Mr E. C. Rawnsley said that they thought the Board might possibly assist on tho following lines:—That the Board should deduct an average Saturday's receipts plu3 the extra expenses, fiom the receipts on January 23rd—the day on which the fete, or gala, is to be he'd —and hand the difference to the committeo for the benefit of the Red Cross Fund. They thought they should, in the special circumstances, give more than the 60 per cent, usually given in connexion with the Now Brighton and Sumner galas. The deputation withdrew. The chairman pointed out that there was a resolution on the Board's books restricting the percentage to CO per ; cent. ! On the motion of Mr Barr, seconds°i j by Mr Pearce, the standing order 3 were suspended. Mr Barr moved: —"That the 40 per cent, usually retained in connexion with seaside galas be handed over to the Sumner-Redcliffs lied Cross committee on January 23rd." Mr Beaven seconded the motion. After discussion the motion was agreed to. The Works and Traffic Committee reported :— "As instructed by the Board at its meeting on August 21st, the details of the agreement with the Government respecting Lake Coleridge power supply have been further cozisidered by the committee. The committee is now able to report that the Government has met it in regard to certain matters, and the terms of tho agreement are now practically settled, and asks for authority to complete." Mr Gray suggested that the points on which agreement was arrived should be made public. Mr Booth thought it was desirable that publication should not take place till the agreement was completed. He believed that the arrangement arrived at was a fairly favourable one to the Board. In some r.especfcs it was favourable to the Government. . , The report was adopted.
