GUARDS SAVE THE DAY AT YFEES. LONDON, November 2G. Renter's Paris representative, states that a British officer bet a French officer that, his Indians would capture thirty sentinels guarding a wood in Flanders. A fearful din broke out in the dead of night ii rid then there was silence. Later the Indians returned in couples, each bearing a man gagged and bound. During the defence of Ypres Major Christie's battery, after three British guns had been disabled, was ordered to retire, but he returned and recovered tho guns. At a critical stage of tho fight a charge of Coldstreams. Grenadiers, and Scots Guards saved the situation by recovering tho trenches that had been lost. They suffered fearful losses, but drove out tho Germans and hung on for thirty-six hours. Their resistance won tho daj.
