AX UNPOPULAR TIME-TABLE
A deputation, consisting of the Mayor (Mr C. 1. Jennings), Messrs W. E. Barton. W. Eft'ord. junr., and R. Ball.- waited on Mr tStringleman, District Traffic Manager, at Rangiora. yesterday, to enter a protest on behalf of the residents against the proposed alterations in the train service from Christchurch to Rangiora. The Mayor poiutcd out that bowlers, tennis players, and others visiting Christchurch. to play in matches, also business men, found at present that they experienced difficulty in catching the train which left at 5.20 p.m., and if, as proposed, the time-of-departure was altered U> 0.10 p.m., more inconvenience would result. In reply, Mr Stringloman asked if it would meet the case if the time of departure was altered to 5.11 p.m. on Saturdays only, explaining that the main triink expresses Iroin the South would arrive earlier under llie proposed new time-table, thereby necessitating the earlier departure of all outwardbound trains on the branch lines from Christchurch. He promised to place the request of the deputation that the train on Saturdays be held back till i>.4l p.m. belore headquartere. It is expected, under the new proposals, that on Saturdays four trains will leave Christchurch. for Rangiora between noon and 5.45 p.m.
