SPRINGS. /
The statutory and first ordinai-y meeting of tho "Springs County Council was held at Springston on Wednesday. Present.—Crs. M. J. Ryan, I. Atldrew. J. W. Kirae, C. Wolfe, and Gordon Stoddart. .Mr Ryan was unanimously elected chairman. Ine Lai Tiipu Dairy Company wrote stating their intention to instal electricity into their factory at Tai Tapu, and asked for a license to roticulato a portion of the county. A letter was also received from tho electrical engineer of tho Public Works Department, favouring tho proposal. It was decided to «osk for further information regarding tho proposal, and ifc was euggested a deputation from tho company should meet the Council at its next meeting. Tho Ellesniere Lands Drainage Board wrote in reply, stating they were prepared to undertake responsibilities of drainage at the end of tho financial year, and suggesting that delegates of tho various Councils interested meet them in conference on the first Wednesday in January. The Council agreed to tho proposal,, and appointed delegates. The Public Works Department advised of v crant« of £1 for £1 as follows:—Fiddler's road £125, Hudson's road £1 for £1 up to £250, Greenpark-Motukarara road £1 for £1 up to £50. Owing to the state of the Council's finances, >t was thought they would not tako ad-, vantage of tho whole of tho grants proposed this year, and appointed a committee %o inspect the roads to decide which should be taken in hand first.
