ELLESMERE.
The statutory meeting of tho Mlesmero County Council was held at Leee.ton on Wednesday. Cr. Cunningham wae olectod chairman. At the la.st meeting of the Council Mr J. t>. lioag asked the Council to waive its rights under a section of the Public Works Act, so as to enable him to proceed by action in tho Supremo Court to compel the Council to maintain bridges across a water-race fronting Ins property. It was decided to refuse tho request. Cr. Storry, who had been delegated by the Council to make certain' enquiries and complete arrangements in tho matter of obtaining a supply of electric light and power, made his report, and it was resolved to ask Mr L. Birk's to name a convenient date upon which he could hold a public meeting in Leeston to place information relative to electric lighting before tho people, with a view to inducing the public to say whether they would be prepared to have their premises connected with the system.
