HOX R. HEATON R RODEO'S CANDIDATURE.
The Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes, Post-master-General, addressed a well-at-tended meeting of the electors in the Ataahua (Kaituna) school on Thursday afternoon, Mr J. Parkinson, chairman of the School Committee, presiding. On the motion of Mr C. W. Field, seconded by Mr \V. Bailey, a vote of thanks to the candidate and or confidence in the Massey Government was carried unanimously. In reply to a question by Mr Walter F. Parkinson, Mr Rhodes promised to confer with the Minister* of Railways, about the erection of a grain shed at the Kaituna station, and to one by Mr T. Quealey Mr Rhodes said ho would consider the question of the erection of a small post, office at Ataahua when he received a reply to his enquiry as to whether a building similar to that at Robinson's Bay would suit. Mr Quealey took the opportunity of handing Mr Rhodes a petition to ■ the Minister of Internal Affairs to the effect that owing to the great damage done to grass in the district by swans, the settlers be allowed to collect t.heir eggs. About 150 electors were present at Mr Rhodes's meeting in the Ladbrooks Hall on Thursday evening. Mr G. H. Tobeck was voted to the chair. At the cloeo of the address the usual complimentary vote, proposed by Mr Pickrering. seconded by Mr Isaac Campion, was received with loud applause followed by cheers for Mr Rhodes on his leaving the Hall. Questioned by Mr A. Roscoe. Mr Rhodes promised that he would make enquiries regarding an assurance said to have been given by Mr Myers when he was Minister of Railways that cer-
tain improvements would bo effected at the Ladbrooks station. In this connexion, Mr Rhodes added, that the Government wero doing their best to give effect to promises made by their predecessors.
