THE ROMEWARD DRIFT.
The Lord Bishop of Manchester, the Right Rev. E. A. Knox, seems worthy of the great _mc that he bears. "He has issued a book called -'Sacrifice or Sacrament?" in which he makes a weighty protest against the Romeward drift in the Church of England. He sees that the question of ''.eatm-nte" is a more serious one than sufJC-rfbial people think, and on that question; he utters some words worthy of John Knox —-'Nothing can be more unfair to the" Church than that her leaders should represent the question at issue as unimportant—a mere question of clothes and decorations. Vestments mean tho Mass, and the Mass means the whole system of Roman theology, and not only of Roman theology, but also as John! Henri. Newman, and others have found, the system of bound up with it."
