A deadlock was reached at tho City Council meeting last night, and proceedings terminated suddenly a few minutes after ton o'clock," with much business on the order paper still to betransocted. About twenty minuteafter going into Committee councillors commenced to file out of the Chamber, and it was learned that a difference had occurred between Councillor Hindmarsh and the Mayor, Mr J. P. As it was clear that a deadlock had been reached, councillors commenced fo i leave tho Chamber, and tho Council j was quickly without a quorum. The Mayor declined to say what was I the exact nature of the remark made by Cr. Hindmarsh. but said it was something which he insisted should be withdrawn."
