The offerings of grain on the local market at tne present time are exceptionally small, and there' is a consequent . lull in busine_B ; though values are being well maintained. The few lines on offer Avere mostly of inferior quality; and the prices they commanded aro no criterion of values. Tuscan has been sold during the week at 3s and 3s 6d, country stations. These, were lines of inferior quality, and were wanted for shipment. Velvet ->nd Red Chaff aro most in demand, and any. good lines offering can b© readily disposed of. Good Tuscan is* worth 3s 8d to 3s 9d, Red Chaff 3s lOd to 3s lid, and Velvet 4» to 4s id. (The latter for extra price parcels), all delivered Timaru. The-oat market shows a slightly better tendency, owing to this cereal being firmer at Home, and tho reduction in freight from 25s to 20s is inducing some shipping business.. A grade Gartons are worth Is 9d, B grade ls Bd, Danish Is 6d to. ls 7d, and Duns ls 8d tils 9d, on trucks. Thero is not much doing in oatsheaf chaff, which is quoted to-day at £2 10s on trucks, country stations. ! The potato market is still not very active, though thero is a.little shipping business now with tho North Island. Local buyers aro offering £3 per ton, f.o.b. It is stated that the demand for potatoes would have been ""better here but for some -North Canterbury holders cutting the price in order to secure North Island orders. There is, a wide variety in the quality of the red clover seed which is offering, some lines being badly discoloured by the weather. U.p to 7d .per lb has been paid this week for good samoles, and 6d and 61 d for medium quality.
