AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE.

(SPECUI* TO "THE FHESS.") AUCKLAND, July 9. ; During the past week, Monowai shares have kept in steady demand at one shilling, but yesterday afternoon the only seller.wanted double that figure. So far the' reason for this demand has r*ot been stated, but the fact that most-of the shares are in a few hands helps to hold prices when any demand sets in. Enquiry set in yesterday afternoon for Kuranui-Caledonian shares at one penny. - This may be due to the nearness of operations being resumed in the crosscut at 1000 feet. The fact that connexion has boon mado between the Waiotahi shaft and the 1000 feet crosscut should lead to a revival of interest in mining at Thames. Ventilation is now assured,. and the crosscut is free from gas, so that there should be little delay in getting to work again after the long rest since last November. Waiotahi shares, after being neglected fox a considerable time, are now enquired for at Is Id, but holders ask 1b Cd. Ross Goldfields shares were placed yesterday at 2s, but sales aro somewhat few and far between, and to-day Is 6d is the best offer. Talisman Consolidated shares have changed hands at 33s 6d, with buyers still .left offering 33a 3d. ' Waihi shares are • a shade easier this week,- having been sold at 41s 3dy at which figure more could be placed. Waihi Grand Junctions have most sales, but they _ eased threepence yesterday, transactions taking place at the late call at . 26s 3d.. Recent reports from .this mine are most reassuring. Investment stocks have not bad much business -since last report, but prices have been well maintained. Insurance shares all round have had steady buyers, an high as 92s being now offered for South British, and 128s for New Zealands. All coal shares were in request at late rates. Auckland Gas (paid issue) have . been transferred at 3Gs, and other lines are firm at last week's quota- I tions. I
