KAIKOURA.

The second hockey match of the seaeon between the Kaikoura Club and the Hovers for the Davidson Cup re~

suited in a drawn game, each side registering a coal. Pearl Harris scored for the old Club, and B. McLeod for the Rovers. Air Vangioni controlled the game. Some members of the Football Club outraged proprieties by kicking a football on to the field of play and prevented, the girls fichting out their game unimpeded. The referee had to stop proceedings and remonstrate with tho young fellows over their conduct. There was considerable merriment at the County Council meeting on Saturday over the reading of a circular letter from the Railway Department regarding the supply and erection of notices warning people driving across roads intersecting railway lines. As the nearest open railway line to Kaikoura is some thirty odd miles distant, councillors viewed the communication as rather a joke. It was decided to inform the Department that the Council would maintain the notices in good order when the trunk line was opened. "Lot it be soon." added one of the members.
