ASHBURTON

■ The trustees of the Church of Christ, Ashburton, intend at an early date to erect a new church in concroto and stone. The estimated cost is about £1000.

At tho fortnightly meeting of tho Ashburton Borough Council, the.Mayor reported that tho total dobit balance was £6958 4s 3d. A letter was received from the Canterbury IVozen Meat Company, stating that the company could not see its way to renewthe present agreement with the Council for the slaughtering of butchers' stock at the Fairfield Freezing Works. The question of the purchaso of a road roller was discussed, and referred to the Works Committee. The Council then sat as a Domain Board. A letter was received from tho AshburtoD Rugby Union, reporting the case of a spectator using very foul languago in the Domain during the progress of a football match, and asking tbo Board to suggest come means of preventing a recurrence of such conduct. It was stated that tho police had taken tho matter up, and that tho man had been fined £5. Tho Board resolved to inform the Rugby Union that if it would report any futtjre cases of misconduct, and would bo prepared to bring forward witnesses, tho Board would'see that a prosecution followed.
