Application was made by the chairwoman of Country Committees for assistance in establishing <>i>en-air Homes for Children.—Referred to Citizens' Committee, itr A. McDonald gave tho Council authority to erect gates on his land near Kcono's Point. Mr J. A. Bpyd asked that an allowance bo made hi;n for tho use of tho formed tramway utilised by tho Council when tho Puhi Puhi road deviation was made. —Left in the hands of tho chairman. Tho Minister of Marine advised that on tho return of the Marine Engineer io "Wellington be would be consulted regarding the visit of an officer in connexion with the Kaikoura harbour improvements.—Received. Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., forwarded letter from Minister of Marino, who stated that in addition to £56 paid the Council on £ for £ basis, on account of fishing-boat slip. a further sum of £29 would be paid ou certificates that tho work had been completed.—Received. The Minister o£ Public Works informed the Council, in reply to its appeal, that he would give careful consideration to the request for a bridge over the Conway at Hundalee road crossing.—Received. Tho Coinmisiioner of Crown Lands. Blenheim, advised that the sito of the proposed fish and whale-oil extracting and manure manufacturing works was a road reserve never specifically vested iv the Council, but presumably under county control, while other land adjacent to tho road re.servo was foreshore, under tho Harbour Board".-: jurisdiction. A petition was presented by Mr John Clcmott, signed by him and twelve others, praying tho Council nor, to grant any permission to erect the proposed works, on the grounds that it would drive the fishermen and their families away from Bullon's Cove, owing to the nuisance the works would create, and so deprive the men of earning their living as they now do. —Consideration deferred, pending report by Health Officer. Tho Postal Department advised that tho Ifanganiannu telephone office was now self-supporting. Last year's working showed a surplus of Lj Ss Sd, and tho bond given by the County Council had therefore been cancelled.—Received. Tho Brass Band asked that it bo allowed to continue the use of tho old Public Library building on tho existing terms.—Agreed to. Notification was received from tho Treasury that the total public debt of tho county had been reduced to £3188 lfis 3d.—Received. It was decided to proceed, under the Public Works Act, to close a number of '"paper" roads on tho Green Hills Estate, A tender for the erection of orates at Kee.no's Point was accepted. The resignation of W. J. Garretfc was accepted, and T. Stack was appointed to temporary charge. Racing and Trotting Club representatives asked that improvements bo effected af. tho racecourse. A couimitteo was appointed to confer with tho clubs, after which steps would bo taken to improve tho courso and appointments.
