EXPLOSION OF BENZINE,

STRATFORD, June 2

An inquest was held to-day on tho body of Dorothy Shewry. whose death was caused by, an explosion of benzine at Hurimbi-na. Tho medical evidence went to show that the girl' was' admitted to the hospital about 9.30 p.m. on Thursday, Buffering from • extensive burns, extending .over the whole body, except the face. . .She stated', she was moving a tin of.benzine in the washhouse, when •it exploded, and the flames hurst out all round her. The cause of" death was collapse, following upon tbe burns. A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned. ' The Coroner referred 'to the fatality as being- a particularly;sad one, and expressed the opinion that something should be done to spread a knowledge of the great dangers resulting from the use of benzine. He strongly commended the officials of the' Public Works Department for their prompt action.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION - TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, June 2. -Mr C. C. Graham, Coroner, held an inquest this morning on the body of Robert Martin Crosbie, who was found in the bush off Dundas street; on Sun-, day afternoon. On the evening of May 20th, Croslve, who was manager of Messrs Burt's factory, left Port Chalmers by the 5.15 train for his home in Cumberland street, Dunedin. but was not hoard of again until his body was discovered. Tho evidence showed that Crosbie apparently got off the train at Pelichet Bnv. There was no sign of a struggle where tho body was found, but thero were a number of matches, some jised, and somo not used, near the body, and .this fact seemed to indicate that Crosbie had been trying to find his way out of the bush. A verdict was returned- of death from exposure, deceased having temporarily lost his memory, and so been unablo to find his way homo.

Shortly after four o'clock yesterday afternoon a. youth named Tomlinson, whilst cycling" in High street, near the Bank of New Zealand, came in contact with a motor-car driven by Mr Wilkinson. Tlie boy was-thrown off his machine, but. with the exception. of a. severe shaking, escaped without injury.
