MR HENRY BEARMAN.
Another old and respected settler of Greenpark passed away on Alonday morning last, in the person of Mx Henry Bearman. Born in Hanover, Germany, in 1830, Mr Bearman, as a young man, settled in London for a timo. *In 1857, with his young wife (nee Carroll), ho emigrated to New Zealand, arriving in Lyttelton in the Cresswell. Mr Bearman worked for some time at Halswell with the late Alr Cridland, whose service he left to work in the Halswell Quarry, when it was first opened, and when tho metal was transported to Christchurch by the old tram-lino. About 1869 Air Bearman took up a small farm at Greenpark, then in its wild state, covered wj?h flax and raupo, and sodden with the bankedup waters of Lake Ellesmere before it was so systematically drained as now-a-days. Though not taking an active part in public affairs, Air Bearman was esteemed as a thrifty and industrious settler; and a kind and good neighbour. His "wife died six years ago. Ho is survived by five sons and three daughters.
