CROWN PROSECUTOR.
MR S. G. RAYMOND APPOINTED
The vacancy in the Crown Prosecutor*.hip at Christchurch, caused by tho appointment of Air Justice Stringer to tho Presidency of tho Arbi- _. tration Court, has now been filled by Mr S. G. Raymond, X.C.. senior partner in tho firm of Raymond and Stringer. Mr Raymond, who is looked upon as oho of the most ablo mon in tho profession, was born in Victoria in 18G2. He received his education at Grenvillo College Ballarat, and camo to Now Zealand at tho ago of seventeen. He entered tho office Mr White, of tho legal firm of White and' Jameson, - Tihnini, as an articled clerk, and was admitted a barrister in 1883. From 1889 to 1910 ho was a member of tho ■ firm of Smithson and Raymond, and on tha retirement of Mr Smithson ho became senior partner in tho firm of Messrs Raymond, Raymond, and Campbell. In 1911 ho camo to Christchurch and entered into partnership with Afr C. Stringer, a son of Mr Justice Stringer, which partnership still subr sists. Ho became one of tho leading barristers here, and in 1913 ho was appointed a K.C. It is understood that Air Raymond will not bo able to take up the duties of his now office, until after tho next sittings of tho Supreme Court here, as ,he has been r« % *»' T, « v I to appear in .'©yeral cases on tho side opposed to t Crown.
