MEETINGS AND SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The seventh annual general meeting of the Red and Biack Association wae h<Sld on Saturday night, Mr J. S. iliddlcton presiding The annual report etated that the Association had had a successful year, both socially and financially, the rooms beLig better patronised than in previous years. Several successful social evenings had been held, and the ladies' evening had been on unqualified success. The report deplored the fact that theTe had not been stronger entries in the McCully Cup Athletic Competitions. During the year 31 new members had been elected, and ten members resigned, the membership lint now standing at 128. Ihe balance-sheet showed receipts £30 12s lid, expenditure £29 4s 7d, assets £17 8s 9d liabilities £1 ss. The report and balance-shest were adopted. Officers were elected ac follow:—President, Mr J. Inglis; auditors, Messrs D. E. Millar and R. W. Morgan; editor of tho journal, Mr H. McD. Vincent. At the fortnightly.meeting of the Christchurch Mieeionary Study Class, held in the Industrial Association's rooms on Thursday evening, papers were read by Mrs Bakewell and Mr J. F. Lewers, the former's being a. geographical "description of* China, and the latter'a on the. Chinese people. .The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Benevolent Lodge 1.0.0. F., M.U., N.G. Bro. G. T. Hillsdon presided over a fair attendance. ; The sick visitors reported five members on the lodge funds. -.One-new member ■was • proposed for initiation. A letter of recommendation was received from the Loyal Oamaru Lodge, in favour of P.G. Bro? H. Thomas, and the brother-wae edmitted. Reports froai delegates, accompanied with annual balanee-eheets of the Interchange Medical Benefits' Association and the T?.B\s. Dispensary Committee, were received. Correspondence Was received' from the North Canterbury District, relative to the annual District meeting on March 16th. P.G. Bro. G. Judd and P.G. Bro. W. B. Browne were nominated for the Deputy-Grandmastershi'J, P.P.G.M. Bro. W. H. Browne, P.G. Bro. G. Judd, and'P.G. Bro. W. B, Browne for the District Management Committee. Tho delegates'\ to attend the meeting; are P.P.G.M. Bro. W. H. Browne, P.O. Bro. W. H. Browne, and P.G. Bro. A. P. W. James. The business sheet was fully discussed, and it was decided to give the delegates » free hand. The agenda paper of the B.M.C. meeting of the ■ New Zealand Branch. 1.0.0. F., M.U., was also received. Tho auditors' report and annual balance-sheet of the Lodge showed the statement of the different funds, ac under;— Sick and Funeral Fund £4998 8a sd, Management Fund £89 4s 2d, Benevolent Fund £24 ISs Id, Surplus Bonus" Fund £489 12s 2d, Jubilee Fund £2 10b Sd, total ££595 10s 3d. The assets are first-clam securities, and the liabilities nil. The membership numbers one hundred.and thirty-eeven. The report was adopted, and the auditors thanked for their services. The N.G. gave notice to give the third degree next lodge niijht. The expenditure amounted to- £4 ~3e, and the receipts were £40 12s 4d.

A very successful bazaar wae held in .the Wharenni school on Saturday, which was worked up by the School Committee and residents'of the district in aid. of the new Recreation Ground, tho district having guaranteed the Board of Education to find £100 of the purchase money. Mr Foster, chairman of the School Committee, referred to the largo amount the people of the district had provided in improving their eohool. The Mayor of Riccarton, in declaring the bazaar open, referred to the ldyalty of the people in supporting their eohool. Among those present were: Mrs A. Boyle, Mr G. Witty, M.P., Mr C. H. Opie, Mr S. A. Staples, Councillors Waddefl, Foster, Stokes, Dempster. The Salvation Army Band, under Bandmaster Taylor, contributed selections during the afternoon. The following were the stall-holders:—Plain sewing, Mesdamee R. W. Hanna and Alley; fancy stall, Mesdamca Milne and Lane; novelty, . Meedamcs Whitham and Emmorson; bran tubs, Miss E.
