TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS."

Sir, —In reading "Ward it off.s ' letter, I was very, much interested in the suggestion he made about tb« Town . Hall for the city and • post office, especially the Town Hall, but 1 cannot say that I Agree with him on the sites, as I think it is a great shame and disgrace to our city that the Gcdley statue should bo obliterated from eight by the tram ehelter, and also the trees sfround it, considering that gentleman was so highly respected by all, especially by the pioneers who worked with him, as I myself have been in his company scores of times and can speak on facts. Could uot the statue be removed to some other conspicuous place, where it could be looked upon with pleasure? If I remember right there w.ns a site offered alongside the Cathedral. If that could be got, and also a stand for our very much respected and loved late Premier, Richard Seddon, they then would be an ornament to our city. Money for this-statue, I believe, could be easily got, for I believe that every pensioner in the Dominion would give their mite towards it, and if-a list was shown in. every pension office.no doubt everyone would subscribe. Regarding the Town Hall, remove the tramway shelter and also the statue of * Godley to a more open and honourable place; no one need be ashamed of either the memory ot the man or his statue, and then y:u have an ideal site for a Town riall.*central and handy for all trams, post office, Government buildings, etc., and there would be no cost ior land. Resrrdins the pest office. I should say it is in its right place. It may not be' up-to-date, but tbat is only a matter of alterations an r l cost of sonu*. .there would be no land to buy.—Yours, etc., PIONEER
