PRISON GATE WORK

Prebendary Carlisle, head of the Church Army Prison Gate Work, when going to Buckingham Palaoe, was stopped at the gates, by an ex-pick-pocket, reclaimed by the Army, who asked Prebendary Carlisle to show the King a Post Office Savings Bank book containing £128.
The King heartily commended the work of the Army, saying: "I feel the greatest sympathy for those who have made a slip in life, and now, without means or character are working their way back to good citizenship."
