« PROPOSED ASSOCIATION TOURS. LONDON, September 1. lhe -tootbail Association considered proposals for tours of Australasia and fcouth Africa, and decided not to entertain the applications at present. LXTERCOLLEGIATE TOURNAMENT. CHRIST'S COLLEGE v. WANGANUI. (FROJI A CORBEBPONDENT.) i "A fine game, won by a very fino lot of ionvai-Os." Tnat was the veruiot or the best judges who watched tno second maicn oi the annual trmugular tournament at Wellington on csaturuay | last. On tho Thuiwiay afternoon \\el- j hutton College had suatehed a sensatioual victory from Waugauui in tne I hi&t live minutes of tue ijaiue, but it ; was thought mat Waugauui would turn ci»o tabit» ou tueir ckiutu IsiunU opponents on the Saturday. In Humphreys and Couper uicy uavo undoubtedly the two huest baciis ot tho year in tne tiiree schools, auu their lorwai-ds, though on tno hgut tide, wero iiaidworiuug and by no meaus slow. lue iive-eigutas wore weuKe-i, but it is not really to their discredit that tho ttanganui backs seldom got going. Tno fact is, that from tho start tue Cnnst s College forwards earned everything beforo Uiein. It was not merely tneir scriuuuagiug—though they aro a imoiyuuilt set ol piayeis, and were Uistmcuy heavier, tuun their oppoaeuts —out [ their footwork was excellent, and tno way in winch they UioKo aud tackled was a thing not to lorget. Shortly alter 2.45 Humphreys kicked off fur V*»auganui. Piucfcaoy returned, hailing toucn well iv tno IS ortiuerners' twenty-live. A series oi scrums lolloweu, but the College forwards, using their feet well, carried tne bail ngni. on to the Waugauui line, and in three minutes from tno start Hanison was over and drew hrst blood. A good attempt from a wide angle left tue Couege leading— 6—o. Humphreys dropped into touch, and from a scrum on tue twenty-live line the ball got out to Lamer, who was well collared by Couper. But the College iorwarus wero not to be denied, auu a fine rush, headed by Richards, Clark, and Loudon, resulted in the last-named getting over. Piuckney converted easily— B —U. From tho kick-oil' Bush niauo a mark, and following up nearly got through till Couper tackled him huely. A good bout of passing, in which Lala and Couper were prominent, brought tho ball into midfiold. A misfieid from Robinson nearly let Couper througn, but Grigg brought him down, and Stilt relieved. The latter passed to Bush, who made a fine run, and kicking over Price's head charged down and (scored a brilliant try—the finest bit of individual work in the mateh —11—0. From the drop out Couper again did a fine run till brought down by Kichards. Grigg brought relief very cleverly, and tne bail was again worked' down to the Wanganui lino. A free kick against the College saved Wanganui, an<l a brief stoppage took place owing to Harding being "winded." From the line-out the Wanganui forwards got possession, and did an excellent bit of dribbling. A free kick against Robinson gave Wanganui a chance of a penalty goal, but the kick went wide. Buah again put in somo fine work, and, passing to Pinckney, the latter m»de a fine run. but the p*as to Lamer went wide. Grigg got possession, and was nearly over when tackled by Couper (whoso -defence throughout was fine). Humphreys relieved again, and a penalty against Robinson gave the College an anxious moment. Soon after half-time was called, with the score:— Christ's College ... 11 Wanganui ... ... 0 Resuming, Grigg was prominent for some good work. Just over the Wanganui twenty-five Lamer made a clever mark, and Pinckney kicked a fine penalty goal—l4—U. From the kickoli Larnur saved a good forward rush, and Loudon dribbled well. From a scrum the ball passed right across the College throe-quarter line, a very hue bit ot passing ending in a try.from. Tohks. Pinolinoy converted from t a dihicult angle—ly—o. On-side against the College gave Wanganui some relief, but Stitt got clean tnrough and very nearly scored. The game was getting more open, and the College threequarters put in some excellent work, mainly.owing to the.fine way they were fed by Grigg. Tonks' kicked over Price's heatl, and nearly repeated Bush's try in the first half. " From the drop out Bush made a mark, and found touch well down the lino. Harrison and Richards put in some good footwork, and the former got the ball out to Lamer, who maae an opening for Bush, ana the latter got over—22 —o. This proved the last scoring of the match, and the whistle sounded with the score: — .._--.
