THE REAL KEEPERS OF PEACE.
(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, August ii). Tlio "Standard" under the heading of "Tho Great Hague Joke" refers tc the costly wars since th c Tsar's rescript started "a colossal sham," and adds:—"Brazil in sending a warship in honour of tho Hague ceremonies shows a fino sense of the fitness of things. Had the others desired to tell th* truth, instead of oounteiiantin-.i; a polite piece of humbug they would havo sent Dreadnoughts with their flags inscribed 'the rial tle.'enders of tho world's peace,' for not the Hague Conference but army corps a::d battleships prevent rivalries bursting into flame. We must face the fact that while every nation is sincerely desirous to keep peace as long as possible all aro convinced that thero is no guarantee against aggression but their own ability to defend themselves."
