There has been a recurrence- of the burglary boom lately, and frequent and daring robberies have been committed in the city and suburbs. After a desperate struggle, a burglar twice shot Mr Overton, proprietor of the Tyno Laundry, Manly, and escaped. The condition of Mr Overton is serious. Mr Overton -was awakened by a burglar in his bedroom- He grappled, and had a fierce fight with the intruder, who fired a revolver, wounding Mr Overton in the neck. In spite of the wound. Mr Overton continued the struggle, and the burglar again fired, inflicting a wound in the stomach. Retaining his hold, Mr Overton was dragged along the passage by tho burglar, who then shook himself free and escaped with £20 worth of jewellery. At Rose Bay. earlier in tho night; an armed, masked man terrorised and; locked up Alderman Kelly's eervants and secured a quantity of silverware. At Clyde two masked men stuck up the caretaker of tho Football Association's ground, and appropriated all tho cash on tho premisos. At Annandale, a burglar visited tho homo of a railway employee who was absent at work, and forced his wife, at the point of a revolver, to accompany him from room to room while ho searched for valuables. His only reward was tho husband's supper, which was ready on tho table and which he ate. In all eases tho burglars escaped.
