(Before Messrs J. Clarke and A. E, Craddoek, J.P.'s.). DRUNKENNESS.
For drunkenness, John Foster "was fined 10s or 48 hours, two first offenders were each fined 6s, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, and Daniel Bourke was remanded for medical treatment.
SIS MONTHS' GAOL. "I don't know what the charge means, but I didn't rob anybody," remarked Margaret Griffin, when charged with being a rogue and a vagabond, and in order to enlighten her on tho position evidence- was tendered as to the woman's habits. Sergeant Jackson declared that the woman consorted with thieves and peoplo of ill-fame, and he added: "The only time I have known this woman to do anything is when sho has carried beer for peoplo and has received a portion of it. She never does anything else." The Bench decided to convict the woman, and as she preferred gaol to a home, she was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. BY-LAW CASES. "Walter Crowe was fined 5s for riding a bicyclo on the footpath! For riding bicycles without lights Henry Tucker, Wilfred Parsons, H. Hunter, James Hay, , and Thomas Green wore each fined 7s, and for a similar offence George Lee was fined 53. Charles Recco was fined 10s for riding a motor bicycle round a corner at Sumner at a speed exceeding six miles .in hour, and for a similar offence Enc Iteeco was also fined 10s. A fine of £1 was inflicted on Arthur Beresford Wilks for allowing cows to wander. •'i'.liam Johnson was fined 5s for allowing his ch.mney to catch fire.
WAIMATE. (Before Mr T. Hutcheson, S.M.) The Waimate County Council proceeded against Mrs N. Ballantvne and W. Kirchner for failing to clear gorce. Tho case against Mrs Ballantyne wns dismissed, and Kirchner was fined 20s j and costs. I In the following civil cases, judgment was given for plaintiff with costs:—F. Alchurst v. E.
