RAILLESS TRAMWAY SYSTEM.

Vo Tlti; EDITOR PIT "THB PRESS, Sir—l notice in your columns that Mr Svkes. a member of the Tramway Board* has been advocating the railless system for extensions such as i*~ui vogue in the Old Country, and I, as •ratepayer of, St. Martin's, thank JVli Sykes for showing us the way in which | our interest can he better served, thus i tending to save us an increase m our I rates. Wo will shortly have to. decide if we will have the present electrio tramway system, and I trust that the residents of St. Martin's will study their own interests hest and voto against the proposed electric tramway service, especially as the proposed 3d section to WiLson's road bridge is out of ali reason compared with all other lines. 1. for one, do not agree to that as the stepping stone for vested interests. It will be years before the St. Martin's and Heathcote district can afford to run a tramway at anything like a profit, and there is bound to be a huge deficit. Surely the great bulk of the ratepayers are not so blind to the true state of affairs as to voto for a tramway system which will help to enrich the fat land-owner at the expense of the rank and file of tho wofkers. You .have only to glimpse around the proposed tramway area and you. will see who is going to reap tlio benefit of the proposed tramway. About tho unearned increment. ___. If those persons who aro proposed St. Martin's tramway were forced to add the first fifth cost of running same to the price of their sections, we would hear not another word about the tramway.—Yours, etc.,
