MR. W. H. ALDERTON.
Mr William Hodson Alderton, who died at his residence 19 SmoJett street. Sydcmiam, on Saturday, was an old and respected railway servant for over 3o years. Arriving at Lyttelton by tho Carisbrook Castie on txsptember and, 1874, Jie joined the service a fortnight later. A year later ne was appointed stationmaster at liaicairn, and was afterwards at Hornby, Doyleston, Temuka, and Southbridgo, resigning on October 15th, 1909. Mr Alderton was born at West Winch-Lynn, Norfolk, and at tJa ago of eighteen years ho enlisted witn tiie Ist. Koyal Rcgimeu't, and his discharge, dated at #Cork, October «n, 1865, states that "Corporal Alderton is entitled to reckon ten years' service, of which ho served at Alalia, one year, Gibraltar, 14 months, and China 33 months." Ho entered the service of tho North London Railway on November 13th, 1865, and resigned on May loth, 1874, to come to New Zealand , . Mr Alderton leaves a widow and ouo daughter.
