PROSECUTIONS IN WELLINGTON

-WELLINGTON, Mayo. The Magistrate to-day dismissed the charges against two hotelkeepers of conniving at gambling on licensed premises. Salvatoro Salvey, charged with betting in an hotel, was fined £20. In tho course of delivering judgment in tho cases against the publicans Air Riddell, S.M., held that betting was jiot gaming within the meaning of tho Act. .
In another case in which an alleged bookmaker was charged with betting in a public place, to wit, a billiard room, counsel for defendant contended that a billiard room was not a public place. Judgment was reserved.
